Education Scholarship Program

Our organization provides support for students who for financial reasons would otherwise not be able to achieve their educational aspirations. We provide financial assistance for tuition, room and board, computers, housing, counseling and leadership support.

Education Scholarship Program in Chiapas and Oaxaca, Mexico

Our program started several years ago when we supported three high school senior girls, from the Pimpollo Home for Children, to go to the university in Chiapas, Mexico. Today, we have 17 in this program that include students attending college on our full scholarships and other students short of college that need our support to continue their educations. There are always new students who want to join the program! Many students come from villages where continued education is unavailable. All students come from very low-income households, many from indigenous backgrounds. So far, 21 students have graduated from college—and five of those have been just this past year! Graduates from the program include a teacher, two nurses, a natural medicine doctor, and an attorney.

Blanca, seen here in her nursing uniform, completed a year of service at a local hospital and has begun collegiate nursing courses.

Our organization provides support for students who for financial reasons would otherwise not be able to achieve their educational aspirations. Scholarship grants are funded through donations from our monthly Education Scholarship Sponsorship Program.

“Support from Friends of Pimpollo helps me to continue to study and realize my dreams. Having a sponsor, especially a nurse or someone in medicine, would really encourage me to not give up, to keep working toward graduation.”                         -Blanca, nursing student in Chiapas

Education Scholarship students either study in Oaxaca or are a part of the ECOSER Education Scholarship Program in Tuxtla Gutiérrez or San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas- the ECOSER program is coordinated by Program Directors Chelo and Felix.
